Thermopsis
rhombifolia var. montana:
The individual leaflets are distinctly rhomboid or diamond-shaped and both
the leaves and stems have an inky hue. The bright yellow
flowers appear in June on 2ft tall stems. Likes some sun but not
too fussy about soil type. Grows well in our dry sandy soil. Does run but
not hard to pull up if it strays beyond its bounds.
Common name: Yellow
Pea
In 1881 Volume 15 of "The
Gardener" in its section on "Choice New Or Rare Hardy
Flowers" describes it thus: "A very handsome species, with large
Lupine-like flowers, bright yellow, and very showy in terminal racemes.
The plant is vigorous, growing to the height of about 18 inches"
