Knautia:

Lovely meadow or cottage garden plants closely related to Scabious with similar pincushion flowers all summer if deadheaded.  Very attractive to bees and butterflies. Grow well all but wet soils.

Propagation is best from seed. Plants can be divided. I get the feeling they come up from their roots (i.e. I think they do but it might be self-seeds fooling me) so root cuttings might work. Something for me to try next winter.

Knautia macedonica

Rangy plants with eye-catching claret, scabious-like flowers throughout the summer. About 3ft tall. Great bee plant.

Other names for this plant include Scabiosa rumelica.

Knautia macedonica Mars MidgetKnautia macedonica Mars Midget

Dwarf plants, no more than 2ft tall. The flowers are more of a red ruby shade than the standard species.
