Scutellaria: Common Name: Skull Cap after the shape of the seed heads

Plants of woodland and woodland edge with lipped (Salvia-like) flowers on tall stems. We grow them in dappled shade and moist soil.

Propagate by seed or division of rooted shoots.

All Scutellaria are harmful if eaten.

The National Collection is held in Cheshire and is open by appointment. Best viewing from end June - August.

Scutellaria altissima copyright 2007 SpecialPerennials.comScutellaria altissima: Lovely blue and lilac flowers along 2ft 6in stems. Forms a slowly spreading clump about 2ft across.

From Eastern, Central and South Eastern Europe in open deciduous woodlands.

We obtained this as seed labelled "Scutellaria zhongdianensis" but the National Collection Holder has confirmed its true identity. The epithet altissima means "tallest".
