Papaver: Common name: Oriental Poppy.

Poppies are everyone's favourite. We all know and love the red field poppies. We grow Oriental Poppies that are large and showy and soundly perennial. Best in a sunny or lightly shaded spot. The foliage will die back after flowering and reappear in late summer all fresh and new, so it is best to plant them in the border with a later flowering plant in front that will grow up and take its place.

Propagation of named varieties is by root cuttings taken in the dormant periods in winter or summer. Some types can be propagated by spring sown seed.

Papaver orientale Curlilocks

Orange with curly petals. About 2ft 9in tall. This variety does spread quite to form a sizable clump.

Papaver orientale Prinzessin Victoria Louise

Lovely salmony pink flowers with a black blotch at the centre.  About 2ft 6in tall in flower.
