Alchemilla

Grow-anywhere plants with blue-green, hairy leaves that hold drops of dew and rain. Technically the leaves are "superhydrophobic" - see Natures Raincoats for more information.

Common name: Lady's Mantle, Alchemist's Plant

A member of the Rosaceae (Rose) family.

Alchemilla mollis and Geum Lady StrathedenAlchemilla mollis

Blue-green leaves covered with downy hairs that hold dew and rain drops like beads of mercury. Foamy yellow flowers on and off from late spring onwards. Cut back hard after flowering to encourage fresh new leaves and flowers. Self seeds - cut off flowers to avoid this, but plants have the knack of coming up in the perfect place - in cracks and  crevices where it would be impossible to plant them yourself. About 2ft tall and arching out to 2- 2 1/2ft spread.

The epithet mollis means "soft" referring to the surface of the leaves.

Perfect Partners, Alchemilla mollis just prior to flowering in front of Geum Lady Stratheden
