Helenium Wyndley (Thomas Grove c1921)

This is a good early flowerer - starting in late June and it is often still flowering in November in our garden. The compact plants reach about 2ft 6in / 75cm tall. The variety Goldfuchs is similar to Wyndley but more yellow coloured in our view.

Wyndley was bred by Thomas Grove and Sons whose Wyndley nursery was in Sutton Coldfield. It caused a bit of a sensation at the National Hardy Plant Society show in 1921 where The Gardeners' Chronicle describes it as new and "tall, erect and of bold appearance, the flowers being produced in large heads. The colour is rich yellow, tinged with bright red".
