July and the garden is in full bloom

© 2007 SpecialPerennials.comHeleniums are coming into their own now. A new variety H. "El Dorado" starts blooming in late June and is in full flower in early July. Its rich golden yellow contrasts well with the pale lemon of Anthemis tinctoria "Sauce Hollandaise". © 2007 SpecialPerennials.comAt this time of year new and exciting colour combinations are appearing everyday. The bright orange Hemerocallis "Bright Spangles" and the stunning blue Salvia patens make a classic orange / blue contrast in our Pond Bed.
© 2007 SpecialPerennials.comIts been a good summer for Kniphofia. They love the wet soil and warmish days. They are taller and brighter than most years and really looking good.  On the left K. "Brimstone" adds a freshness to Achillea "Terracotta" and Leucanthemum x.surperbum "Sonnenshein" in our Yew Tree Bed. Other Kniphofia in flower now are K."Tawny King", "Gladness", "Timothy", "Old Court Seedling" and "Nancy's Red"; as well as the species K.bicolor and K.pauciflora. © 2007 SpecialPerennials.comAgainst a north facing fence (left) a selection of clear pinks adds a warm light. From front to back we have Hemerocallis "Kelly's Girl", Salvia greggii "Stormy Pink", Phlox paniculata "Eden's Flash" and  Francoa sonchifolia
© 2007 SpecialPerennials.comLeft, our new silver-pink bed is beginning to take shape. The combination of silvery foliage and white and pale pink flowers is restful but shines out particularly well on dull days. Front to back we have: Pulmonaria "Cotton Cool", Cirsium diacanthum (syn Ptilostemon diacantha), Achillea "Christine's Pink" and Lychnis coronaria "Alba".  © 2007 SpecialPerennials.com
Above is a star plant of the month is Lobelia tupa. Reaching up to 8ft (240cm) by the end of the summer, its is now in full bloom with spires of red flowers.
