Long, Hot Summer Border
The Brief:
Lots of bright colour throughout the season. As little maintenance as possible (in so far as perennials can be maintenance free!).
Dislikes: dahlias, lupins or rudbeckia.
Likes: the colours of Helenium Sahin's Early Flowerer, bright colours red,
orange, yellow also blue and mauve.
The 60ft long border gets sun in the afternoon and is backed by a wall and will be edged with box. The border is little more than 6-8ft wide at most.
Plants have been chosen to give flowers from April to November with the peak flowering time from June through August. The plants selected are not too tall or are very robust so that they should not require staking in the most part. The Heleniums are normally ok without staking but at the most it will be sufficient to place some twiggy sticks amongst the plants for them to lean against.
The colour scheme is based around the colours in Helenium Sahin's Early Flowerer.
