Centaurea
cheiranthifolia
This is one of the stars of our garden with
its ivory white flowers with purple stamen and long, narrow, grey felted
leaves. It grows to about 1ft - 1ft 6in / 30-45cm tall. It is drought tolerant, but not
too fussy about soil
type as long as it is not boggy. It likes a
sunny spot and when happy will flower repeatedly from mid May right through the
summer. It does spread by underground shoots.
The specific name refers to similarity in the shape
of leaf with those of Wallflowers.
