Centaurea
From Turkey.
Obtained as unnamed species that was collected in
Turkey.
Pale lilac-blue cornflowers and ground hugging grey-green leaves. The flower stems
reach about 20-30cm. Flowers from early May to August. Leaves may die back after the
hottest part of the summer but new leaves soon appear again. Drought tolerant
and needs well drained soil. Best in a sunny spot.
We had been advised that the plant
was variously probably a hybrid between montana and thriumfettii.
However, talking to a knowledgeable member of the Worcestershire Group of
the NCCPG, who grows both our plant and the named hybrid, our plant is
taller and spreads more. Watch this space for more information.
